What a wonderful technique to add to your list of cake decorating abilities! Tami shows you how to make these lovely, delicate poinsettias, and you'll be able to utilize her gelatin techniques for all kinds of projects, from valentines to stars to all kinds of shapes!

The "lace" at the bottom is called a "Garret Frill" and Tami shows you how to make this with a fondant/gumpaste mix, also!

Please note: Tami shows you how to make the flowers and frill at the bottom of a cake, and how to decorate a cake that is already covered in fondant, rolled buttercream, or candy clay.

Tami utilizes decorating "tricks of the trade" with this cake. It's best to have the "Cake Decorating Made Easy!" basics under your belt, or have other cake decorating experience to get the most out of this video set!

Meet the Decorator...tami utley

When Tami Utley’s first child was born she wanted to make beautiful birthday cakes for him, like her mother did for her. After taking her first cake decorating course in 1990 she immediately became obsessed with gumpaste and started learning all she could about foreign technique. She started competing in 1991, and has won several Best of Show awards and numerous Best of Division and First Place awards. After a few years she started teaching and demonstrating.

Tami loves to learn all she can and has had classes with Nicholas Lodge, Geraldine Randlesome, Carole Faxon, Debbie Brown, Jan Svenson, Eunice Borchers, Lynne Rigby, Maureen Stevenson, Steve Stellingwerf, Roland and Marsha Winbeckler, and Betty Newman-May, plus many others. She has worked as an assistant for Nicholas Lodge and Colette Peters in their classes. And she has been featured in
American Cake Decorating Magazine several times and had her cakes in the ICES newletters.

Although she specializes in foreign technique cake decorating including Lambeth, gumpaste flowers, flood work, brushed embroidery, and bas relief, Tami thoroughly enjoys all facets of sugar art!

I tried many time to make gelatin flower before but Tami took all the guess work out of them.  I love being able to watch her demonstrate the correct way to do things.  Being able to watch Tami makes this a technique that I have now conquered.  I have used the basic idea of gelatin for many other shapes and flowers.  I love it.

I learned not only how to decorate in rolled buttercream, but how to make these gelatin poinsettias.  They were so much fun and can be adapted for other uses....I made several red and pink gelatin hearts for valentines day.  Tami also shows you how to make the garret frill....so easy and the pretty roping....so many techniques that can be used for so many other projects.

A very interesting idea December 14, 2009

This video totally bowled me over with a rather unusual idea. Tami explains clearly how to achieve the glass-like flowers, and they can actually be achieved without much sweat. A great centre piece for Christmas.

I tried making gelating flowers from reading on-line directions, and from a book.  They just were not good, until I learned how from this video. Now I want to make gelating flowers and put them on everything.  I am just in love with them!
